Admissions
At UT Austin, admission decisions are made following a holistic review. Applicants will be admitted based on the sum of their academic and professional accomplishments, not any single criterion. The following requirements are applicable to both the mechanical engineering master’s degree program and graduate certificate program.
Domestic Requirements
To qualify for both the master’s degree program and graduate certificate program, domestic applicants must have the following:
- A Bachelor of Science in engineering or a related field.
- A 3.0 GPA (recommended).
- Official transcripts from an accredited college or university.
- A resume and statement of purpose.
- Two professional or academic letters of recommendation.*
*Applicants will be prompted to submit three letters of recommendation on the graduate application form. Please note that only two letters are required and that this prompt can be left blank.
International Requirements
In addition to meeting the domestic requirements above, international applicants must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores, if applicable.
Application Deadlines
Applicants, especially international students, are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Notice of an admission decision will be sent about one month after application completion and only after all materials have been received. All materials are due by the application deadline. Please note that test scores may take up to three weeks to transmit to UT Austin.
